Objective of the Game

The object of the game is to collect sets of four cards that represent a famous author. The first player to collect all the cards in a set wins that set. The game continues until all the sets have been collected and the player with the most sets at the end of the game is the winner.

Materials Needed for Playing Authors

  • A standard deck of playing cards
  • Authors cards (can be purchased or made at home)

Cards Used

Authors cards are used in addition to a standard deck of playing cards. The authors cards consist of four cards for each author in the game.

Other Supplies Needed

  • Paper and pen for scorekeeping (optional)

How To Play Authors

  1. Shuffle the deck of playing cards and deal five cards to each player.
  2. Place the remaining cards face down in the center of the table to form the draw pile.
  3. Turn over the top card of the draw pile to start the discard pile.
  4. Players take turns drawing a card from either the draw pile or the discard pile and then discarding a card from their hand.
  5. The first player to collect all four cards for a specific author wins that set and places it face up in front of them.
  6. The game continues until all the sets have been collected.
  7. The player with the most sets at the end of the game is the winner.

Keeping Score

Players can keep score by counting the number of sets they have collected. The player with the most sets at the end of the game is the winner.
