Sevens Game Overview
Sevens is a classic card game that is easy to learn and a lot of fun to play with friends and family. The game is also known as Fan Tan, Card Dominoes, and Parliament. Sevens is a shedding-type card game, which means that players take turns playing cards to a communal pile, attempting to get rid of all their cards first.
Objective of the Game
The goal of Sevens is to be the first player to get rid of all of their cards. Each player takes turns playing a card that is one higher or one lower than the card in the communal pile. If a player is unable to play a card, they must pass their turn. The game ends when one player has no more cards in their hand.
Materials Needed for Playing Sevens
- A standard deck of 52 playing cards
- 2 or more players
- A flat surface to play on
Cards Used
Sevens is typically played with a standard deck of 52 playing cards. Jokers are not used in the game.
Other Supplies Needed
- None
How To Play Sevens
- Shuffle the deck of cards and deal them out evenly to all players.
- The player with the 7 of diamonds begins the game by playing it in the middle of the playing area.
- Play proceeds clockwise. Each player must play a card that is one higher or one lower than the card in the communal pile. For example, if the communal pile has a 5 of hearts, the next player can play a 4 of hearts or a 6 of hearts. Aces are high and can be played on a King or a 2, but not both. Similarly, Kings can be played on a Queen or an Ace, but not both.
- If a player is unable to play a card, they must pass their turn.
- The game ends when one player has no more cards in their hand.
Keeping Score
In Sevens, there is no scorekeeping required. The winner is simply the first player to get rid of all their cards.
